Guided cycling & hiking, deep into the Western Cape's wild places

Wild Skies Adventures runs small-group, guide-led cycling and hiking tours through the Cederberg, Swartberg and Cape Peninsula, led personally by qualified guides and professional adventure photographers Steph van Gelderen & Grant Clark.

Why Wild Skies

Two guides, one standard: show up and let us handle the rest.

  • Led by the people who live it

Every tour is guided personally by Steph or Grant, qualified guides and lifelong adventurers. No handed-off groups, no strangers at the front. You ride and hike with us.

  • Small groups, real places

We keep groups small and routes bespoke, taking you into corners of the Cederberg, Swartberg and Cape most travellers never reach.

  • Guides who shoot

We're professional content photographers as well as guides, so you come home with the story and the images, not just the memory.

  • Sorted from start to finish

Routes, logistics and the hard planning are handled. You show up, ride or walk, and let the wild do the rest.

About Us

Founded by two guides who'd rather be outside

Wild Skies Adventures is founded and run by Steph van Gelderen and Grant Clark, experienced outdoor adventurers, qualified guides, and professional content photographers based in Cape Town.

Between them, Steph and Grant have spent years riding and hiking the Cederberg, Swartberg and Cape Peninsula, guiding groups professionally and shooting the outdoors for a living. Wild Skies exists because they wanted to lead those trips themselves: small groups, real routes, and a camera in hand, rather than hand travellers off to someone else.

Every Wild Skies tour is guided personally by one of the founders, so the person planning your route is the same person riding or walking beside you.

Impact

Positive impact adventure travel

Responsible travel is at the core of what we do. Our tours are small-group and human-powered by nature, light on the land, and built to put spending back into the local communities we ride and hike through. We're also creating ways for travellers to give directly to local community organisations along our routes.

FAQ

Common questions about Wild Skies tours

Where are Wild Skies Adventures based?
Wild Skies Adventures is based in Cape Town, South Africa. Tours run across areas of Western Cape such the Cederberg, Swartberg and Cape Peninsula. We also run tours and experiences in other select and remote areas of South Africa.
Do you cater to different fitness levels?
Yes. Cycling and hiking routes are matched to rider and hiker ability and fitness, from curated, bespoke Cape Peninsula rides and Table Mountain Day Hikes to challenging multi-day crossings like Cross Cape (Plettenberg Bay to Franschhoek) and the Swartberg Loop.
Do Wild Skies tours involve camping?
Some do. Multi-day tours such as the Swartberg Loop and the Cederberg hiking routes often include sleeping outdoors under the stars or in caves. But we will curate an experience to suit your requests and if you don't want to sleep outdoors, that's fine too! Get in touch and start the conversation.
Do I need to bring my own bike?
No, you don't have to. We can organize any bike rentals for you. We'll just ask you for your preferred bike set up requirements and we'll get it sorted! It can be road, gravel or mountain bike, just let us know.
Do I need travel insurance?
Yes. We require all our guests to have comprehensive travel insurance. We take you into remote, wild areas where things can and will go wrong from time to time. We want you to be as prepared as possible.
How do I book?
Every tour starts with a conversation, not a checkout. Send us an enquiry with your thoughts and questions and we can introduce ourselves and start to build out your experience.
